Save the Wave

Ever since Corvette No. 00001 first met Corvette No. 00002 on the road, their drivers saluted each other with waves. There’s one item of standard equipment that comes as a pleasant surprise to every new Corvette owner. It’s the instant wave of recognition he receives from fellow Corvette drivers. Soon, however, the new Vette owner anticipates, indeed even relishes, encountering other Vettes as he drives. He experiments with his waves, running the gamut from the gaping “yoo hoo” to the ultra-cool “two-finger flip.” He perfects his timing, making sure he affects neither the too-eager, too-early wave, nor the jaded “oh brother” too-late variety. Determined not to be one upped, he even develops a defense mechanism for non-wavers, usually settling on the “Wave? My hand was just on the way to scratch my head” approach. (This is especially useful when you’re not driving your Vette, but you forget, and like a dummy, wave anyway.)

This Weeks Trivia:
A Wikipedia fun fact

Built off-line in a corner of Chevrolet’s Tonawanda, NY engine factory, the L88′s attributes were legendary. It was Corvette’s answer to the Cobras and Ferraris, a full-bore racing engine that appeared on paper to be sufficiently unattractive to all but the well-informed. Even serious racers would overlook it. The L88 option appeared on Corvette’s option list as a 430hp version of the 427 cubic inch engine. In rating the L88, Chevy quit the dyno run well below the rpm where it had maximum torque, much less maximum horsepower. In actual fact every L88 cranked out 550 or so horsepower. Every part was individually weighed, blueprinted and fitted. You could get your L88 without emissions control equipment by specifying PRO if the ordering dealer and any watchful order processor upstream let it through.

This Weeks Trivia Question:

On Tuesday, June 30, 1953 the first Corvette Serial Number E53F001001 rolled of the assembly line, and Corvette production officialy began. There was a major problem however. What was it?

Last weeks Trivia Questions:

One big controversy with the new Sting Ray  (Chevrolet code name  XP-720) was this?.

Zora Arkus-Duntov hated the name Sting Ray saying "It's a dumb fish!" but Bill Mitchell loved the name and it stuck.

The original front emblem and horn button on the C1 "Autorama" show circuit Corvette featured crossed American and checkered flags. Why was it changed?

It was later discovered that using an American flag on a product trade mark was against the law and the emblem was changed shortly before the New York Motorama.
